No Place Like Home

I arrived back home in Yorktown yesterday evening but not before a stop in Williamsburg to see my sweetheart. There was excitement again like when we were dating. Distance really does make the heart grow fonder.

Being away from Gabe for 12 days gave me time to again focus on who I am as an individual. Being a wife for 5 years can make you forget that you are your own person. I can make friends, hold conversations and have a good time all on my own. It sounds a little pathetic that I began to forget myself.

Gabe has a new job as the assistant band director at Grafton High School. This means that Bill will be the full time assistant director at Grafton Middle with me. I am so happy he will not be pulled in two directions and can focus all his energy into the middle school students.

It is exciting to see Gabe return to teaching. He has a musical gift and is so good at sharing it with others. Grafton should allow him the opportunity to teach without too many behavior or social problems in the classroom. It will be a busy fall for Gabe with marching band. I guess I will be spending time at football games and marching band competitions!

Band Camp at Ferrum College

It is the last day of my Band Camp at Ferrum College. The Middle School students have their concert today and then I am on my way home to Yorktown. It has been a great two weeks. I've visited an old friend, Corri, and caught up on old times. I also earned validation that I really do know what I'm doing as a teacher. The people I've met at camp have been great. The instructors and counselors are all really neat people. I guess one band geek is as good as any other!
